Howdy! š
Here are 5 things I wanted to share with you this week.
āļø Perception Gap
I just heard about The Perception Gap site today, but Iām convinced that Iāll be talking about it months from now. Click through and take the quiz first, then browse through some of things findings. Itās a healthy opportunity to challenge some of your beliefs.
š„ Nuzzel
When I start feeling like my social media and news feed checking is coming too habitual Iāll delete the apps from my phone. A service I never turn off though is my Nuzzel email. It takes the people I follow on Twitter and looks at any links that multiple of them have shared. This not only encourages me to follow higher quality people, but also more people in the fields that Iām most interested in.
š¤µš»āāļø Bartender
When I realize thereās an app I use daily I feel like itās worth sharing on here. This one is a bit boring, but keeps me sane. Bartender allows you to control the apps that show up in your menu bar. You choose which apps show all the time, part of the time, never, and what order the go in. Itās simple, but oh so useful. Hereās what my current menu bar looks like:
And hereās what it would look like if I wasnāt using Bartender (aside from the Bartender icon):
šø Scratch
Learning the concepts of computer programming might be the most valuable thing Iāve learned in my life. I found that I learned best when doing things with instant visual feedback. Processing is what I did a lot of my learning with, but if I were to start over or if/when I teach a kid Iāll probably start with Scratch. Iāve used it to help teach my nephews some programming and found it a perfect balance between ease of use/learning and teaching powerful programming concepts.
š§² What Polarizes People
Iāve been working my way through This Explains Everything by John Brockman. Iām taking it slow and reading it between other books, but Iāve been thiking a lot about this little equation from it lately and trying to find more ways to become less segregated from differing opinions.
opinion-segregation + conversation ā polarization
