Howdy!
Here are 5 things I wanted to share with you this week.
🌷 Richard Feynman - Ode to A Flower
This video combines one of my favorite motion artists, Fraser Davidson, with one of my favorite thinkers, Richard Feynman making an argument about knowledge of something adding to its beauty.
For more Fraser Davidson animations (including his entertaining #TrumpFacts series) check out his YouTube Channel.
For more Feynman you can watch more from the interview the above clip came from or I’d also recommend reading Surely You’re Joking Mr. Feynman!.
📧 Email Myself iOS Shortcut
I have tried different read-later services, but for the past couple of years, I’ve been more likely to email myself things I want to read, watch, or listen to. I do pretty well at clearing my inbox, so it’s the most likely way for me to be sure I’ll actually get to something. Because of this, I’ve made a shortcut for my phone to send anything that has a share button to my inbox. Here’s how I set it up:
First, you’ll need to have Apple’s Shortcuts app
Create a shortcut with the following options:
In the settings (the “…” menu) select “Show in Share Sheet”
Now, whenever you’re in an app you can hit the share icon. It usually looks something like this:
There you should see your shortcut option. To move it to the top of the list like this click the “Edit Actions…” link at the bottom.
📉 CamelCamelCamel.com
Camelcamelcamel.com has a free service that tracks the prices of items on Amazon wishlists. You can set price thresholds so you get alerted only after something drops below a certain price. This is great for things you want to buy regularly or for things that you can’t justify at their current prices. It’s also good to help you decide if something is likely to drop in price.
🪛 James May The Reassembler
This show has a simple premise. James May (of Top Gear fame) starts with an object that has been completely disassembled and talks about it as he reassembles. It’s funny (in that British humor sort of way), meditative, and a great way to learn a little about engineering and industrial design. You can watch full episodes on YouTube. He reassembles a lawnmower, telephone, electric guitar, toy train, food mixer, mini motorcycle, and a portable record player.
💪🏻 You Already Know Enough
Something I’m in need of reminding myself of regularly.
“Here’s the bottom line: You already know all that you need to succeed. You don’t need to learn anything more. If all we needed was more information, everyone with an Internet connection would live in a mansion, have abs of steel, and be blissfully happy. New or more information is not what you need—a new plan of action is. It’s time to create new behaviors and habits that are oriented away from sabotage and toward success. It’s that simple.”
